Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko on Tuesday stressed the need for government at all levels to design and implement developmental programmes and policies aimed at empowering women in the country.

Mimiko, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, stated this while inaugurating developmental projects in the Central Senatorial District of the state.

He said the importance of women to the economic growth of any society could not be overemphasised.

Some of the projects inaugurated by the governor included a regional market at Ijare, a town hall and residential housing units at Bolorunduro in Ifedore and Ondo East local government areas.

Mimiko, who pledged to develop the state, presented cheques worth N2m to some market women at Ijare.

He reassured the people of the resolve of his administration to leave the state better than he met it.

The governor noted that the biggest challenge facing the people was poverty and vowed to deploy all the resources at his disposal to fight the menace.

He said, 'Our market revolution is a deliberate attempt to boost the economy of the state.

'I have no doubt that this market which was built through the collaborative effort of the state and the local government will improve the economic activity of the people.'
