Salami is shameless - Group

By Chima Ubeku

An Abuja based non governmental organisation, the Society for Rule of Law in Nigeria (SRLN) has described the President of Court of Appeal (PCA), Justice Isa Ayo Salami as a man who lack any sense of shame, saying; "it is insulting for a man, who sat in judgment over cases involving his friend, Senator Bola Tinubu's party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to be talking about fair hearing and natural justice now that he has been caught in the web of his judicial magomago."

The group said the National Judicial Council (NJC) should save the Nigeria Judiciary the "Salamic embarrassment" by showing Justice Salami the exit door from the Court of Appeal.

SRLN noted in a statement issued by its Coordinator, Comrade Chima Ubeku that; "Was Salami and the five Senior Advocates of Nigeria

(SANs) sleeping when they were before the NJC Probe Panel?"

Salami had claim in the suit he filed against his indictment by the NJC that "the setting up of the NJC Investigation Committee and its composition were in gross violation of the principles of natural justice, saying his constitutionally guaranteed right to fair hearing under Section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) was breached."

But SRLN said in its reaction that it was funny that a man, who never saw anything wrong in presiding over cases that he ought to have disqualified himself from, is now talking about fair hearing.

"This man does not have shame. If he has any atom of self esteem, he ought to have resigned by now.

"Instead of giving Nigeria a break, he is even presiding over election petition case, involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while still answering questions on his role in judgments involving the party.

"It is therefore important that the NJC should wield the big stick against Justice Salami and the Attorney General of the federation should also commence his prosecution. Failure to prosecute the PCA for perjury, which is criminal and attracts jail term will amout to saying that all that anyone, who commits crime should do is to apologise and continue his life," the group said.
