A chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State and former presidential aspirant of the party, Rev. Emma Obianagha has okayed the single term of office for president and governors in the country being proposal by President Goodluck Jonathan, describing it as a welcome development.

Rev. Obianagha who spoke on the proposed bill at the weekend said the single term of office should be allowed to be in place, as it will go along way in shaping the politics of the nation for the better, noting that it will also breathe a new life into the political system of the country.

He described the rejection of the bill by opposition parties as views of those that do not mean well for this country, saying the constitutional amendment for the tenure of president and governors is a right step in the right direction.

He said that the single term bill if passed would make elected president and governors to be focused on what they were elected to do instead of throwing their incumbent weight on second term; adding that second term consumes a lot of things to the detriment of our democracy.

His words: 'Second term is a misfortune for our democracy, am happy about the bill because the cost of conducting election into presidency and governorship are very expensive, it is better we use the money for other purposeful things. For instance now we are talking about minimum, wage, am sure that the money used to conduct election in April is enough to pay workers for 30 months at all level.'

He added: 'If you calculate the money that was released to INEC by the Federal Government and the amount spent by various categories of aspirants from buying nomination forms to electioneering campaign it will amounts to trillions of naira, so in my own opinion let the bill go through.'
