ALL SET FOR ONI’S MOTHER BURIAL ON FRIDAY

All is now set for the final journey of the deceased mother of Chief Segun Oni, former governor of Ekiti State, Mrs Comfort Ajayi Oni.

The week-long burial ceremonies, which started on Monday, will be rounded off on Friday with farewell service at Methodist Church Cathedral, Ifaki-Ekiti and reception of guests at Methodist Girls High School, Ifaki-Ekiti.

Chairman of the Burial Committee and former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Sikiru Tae Lawal, who made this known in a release issued in Ado-Ekiti today, said “all necessary arrangements had been concluded to give our mother, Mama Comfort Ajayi Oni a befitting burial.”

He assured invited dignitaries of adequate security, saying; “In an event like this, which involves not only the entire State, but the whole country, security of lives and properties is not one to be toyed with and we have made adequate provision for it.”

Mrs. Comfort Oni, a devout Christian and community leader died at about 6pm on Monday, April 25, 2011 in her Ifaki-Ekiti residence. She was 106 years old.

On activities lined up for the burial, Lawal said; “We have had quiz competition, hunting by Ifaki hunters, cultural dance and other notable events coordinated by the people of Ifaki, who see Mama as their mother.

“The hunting game has been more memorable because you need to be at Ifaki to see the level of enthusiasm shown by the hunters and the number of animals they have provided for lovers of bush meats.

“People's Democratic Party (PDP) women in the State and Methodist Diocesesan fellowship will have a special rendition of songs Wednesday, and on Thursday, there is going to be Christian Wake-keep to be coordinated by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ido/Osi Local Government chapter.

“On Friday, it will be the burial ceremony proper.”
