STI BOSS ELECTED NIA COUNCIL MEMBER

The Managing Director of Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc Mr. Wale Onaolapo was recently elected as a member of the Governing Council of the Nigeria Insurers Association, (NIA) at a keenly contested election held at the Annual General Meeting of the Association in Lagos.

Some of the ten contestants retained their seats, however, it is interesting to note that Mr. Onaolapo got the ticket as a fresh candidate to the Governing Council.

In his appreciation speech, Mr. Onaolapo thanked everyone for making his aspiration a reality as he promised to bring to bear his wealth of experience and qualitative leadership acumen in ensuring that the association is taken to a respectable position of reckoning in the comity of professional associations in the country and beyond.

He said the contributions of every member of the Governing Council are required to achieve remarkable success during their tenure in office. In his words, 'I humbly believe that we all have one common goal and that is to make our dear association a point of reference in the Nigerian professional and economic landscape; our work begins now and we all need to bring our individual dynamism for the collective goal of making our tenure a success.'

A seasoned insurance professional of great repute, Mr. Onaolapo has worked in various companies where he acquired vast experience in the business of insurance at different levels before joining Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc in 1994.

Mr. Wale Onaolapo's experience in the insurance industry in Nigeria spans about 30 years. He once worked with Femi Johnson & Company and Unitrust Insurance Company Limited amongst the few companies he had traversed in the insurance industry.
