KANO, June 27, (THEWILL) – Kano State Head of Service, Mallam Umar Shehu Minjibir has debunked rumours suggesting that the state government was taking measures to effect a mass sack of civil servants to enable it meet up with payment of the new minimum wage of N18,000; describing the rumour as a handwork of mischief makers.

The HOS explained that there is no iota of truth in the pronouncement that the Kwankwaso administration is planning a massive purge of workers.

According to a press release made available to THEWILL in Kano Monday, Mallam Minjibir explained that the rumours spread after the Accountant General of the state, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud held a press briefing last week, where he said the state government had commenced a screening exercise to authenticate the true figure of its workforce for the purpose of payment of salaries and allowances.

The HOS further criticized the press for fueling the rumours. He also accused the media of blackmailing the government over what it called the Kwankwaso’s purposeful programme.
