In continuation of efforts to strengthen the demobilisation phase of the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Committee, Hon. Kingsley Kuku has appointed Major Fredrick Anesah (rtd), the new Commandant of the Amnesty Demobilisation Camp in Obubra, Cross River State.

He replaces Lt. Col Larry Perkins (Rtd) who has been redeployed to the Amnesty Office's headquarters in Abuja.

As the commandant, Maj. Anesah will serve as the Chief Administrative Officer of the camp and shall supervise the implementation of all demobilisation programmes.

He shall also coordinate the activities of all camp staff, service providers and consultants in the Demobilisation Camp.

In a brief hand-over ceremony in Abuja, yesterday, the Special Adviser admonished Maj. Anesah to build his operational principles around prudence, transparency, accountability and discipline.

'You cannot afford to fail, the whole world is watching us; the Amnesty Programme, particularly the demobilisation exercise in the Obubra Camp is generating a lot of interest both within the country and abroad.

We have raised the bar in that Camp; but I expect you to take the camp to the next level. Failure is not an option at all, you have to bear this in mind as you assume this new position. I challenge you to surpass the record of your predecessor,' Hon Kuku told the new Camp Administrator.

He added that he was confident that Maj. Anesah will excel on his new assignment given his pedigree in the Nigerian military, security and intelligence circle.

Hon. Kuku also commended the former Commandant, Lt. Col.  Perkins for stabilising the Amnesty Camp and clarified that he was recalled to the Abuja head office to strengthen the Programme's Reintegration Team.

The new Commandant, served in both the Nigerian Army and the State Security Services, SSS. Prior to his appointment, Anesah served as the Chief Security Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
