Boko Haram Attack: 5 policemen, One Civilian Slain In Katsina

KATSINA, June 20, (THEWILL) - Suspected members of the notorious radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram today attacked a commercial bank and police station in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, slaying five policemen and a civilian.

The incident occurred when the members of sect attacked a branch of BankPHB towards the close of business and carted away undisclosed sums of money.

The hooligans numbering about twelve were said to have gained entry arrived into the bank after throwing a bomb.

Reports said after robbing the bank, the members went into Kankara town and distributed the loot among locals in the town.

The radicals were said to have proceeded to Kankara Divisional police station, forced their way into the post and released detainees before engaging the police in fire fight killing three policemen and detonating a bomb thereafter.

The Area commander of the Police in charge of Funtua Zone Ahmed Azare visited the scene of the incident, but decline to make any comment.

The sect members were said to have escape after going round the town chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’ which means Allah is great.

All efforts to contact the state police Commissioner Alhaji Sabo Ringim proved abortive, while the command spokesman Abubakar Muhammad’s GSM phone line was switched off.
