PORT HARCOURT, June 20, (THEWILL) – The five NYSC corps members abducted more than two weeks ago in Omademe, Ikewere Local Government Area, Rivers State have regained their freedom, THEWILL can report.

According to a Monday SMS from Police spokesman in Rivers State, Mr. Ben Onwuegbulem, the NYSC members -- Mr. Yusuf Olumide, Mrs. Fase Funmilayo, Chinonye Ejiegbu, Nkechi Uwazie and Vivian Ekwanya were rescued on Sunday and are presently in the custody of the Director General, National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga, who has been in Port Harcourt since their abduction.

“The NYSC members were sighted at about 7:30 pm and rescued by mobile policemen conducting stop and search at Omerenu along Port Harcourt – Owerri Road,” the SMS stated. The spokesman did not give further details on the rescue operation when we contacted him.

THEWILL gathered that no arrest has been made in connection with their abduction and it is however unclear whether any ransom was paid for their freedom.

The Police spokesman added that the joint rescue operation was conducted by the police, the State Security Service (SSS) and the military.

Security forces have so far successfully solved three kidnap cases in three weeks.

Recall that they rescued Mrs. Margret Egwuche, wife of an employee of an oil serving company in Port Harcourt, who was abducted from her residence in Rumuola, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state about a week ago.

The police also rescued the mother of Chief Okoroma kidnapped on June 17, 2011 at Obrikom in Omoku LGA.

No arrests have also been made in both matters.
