UBA Foundation Holds Awareness Campaign On Prostate Cancer (Walk, Jog & Cycle Against Prostate Cancer); Provides Free Screening To Public
Lagos, June 15, (THEWILL) - UBA Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of United Bank for Africa Plc, will on Saturday June 18, 2011 as part of its special project pillar commence a charity walk against prostate cancer, which is believed to be one of the most debilitating cancer affecting men in Africa. The exercise, which is scheduled to hold simultaneously in the 18 African countries where UBA operates will also feature free screening of the deadly scrounge to members of the public.
To add to the excitement, a novelty football match tagged “Kick out Prostate cancer” which will feature the Group Managing Director, UBA Plc, Mr. Philips Oduoza and other management staff of the bank playing against each other will be held at the National Stadium in Lagos, after staff, family and friends of the bank have walked, jogged and cycled against prostate cancer.
Speaking about the initiative, Managing Director, UBA Foundation, Ms Ijeoma Aso said, “The aim of this campaign is to raise funds and to create awareness for prostate cancer which is one of the most common cancerous ailments in men and can be nipped in the bud if detected early. As a member of Africa’s global bank, we are determined to increase awareness in the communities where we operate in regards to the scourge.
In Lagos, the walk will start by 7am; take off point will be the front gate of the National Stadium at Western Avenue through Tejuosho Road, to Yaba Road through Ojuelega road, Lawanson Road, Randle Road, Akerele road, Shittu roundabout, Masha road, and back to the Stadium.”
