…DECLARE STATE OF EMERGENCY IN PDP, GROUP TELLS JONATHAN

By NBF News

Appalled by what it called the lack of party discipline in the Peoples' Democratic Party, a group, PDP Transformation Network has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to wield the big stick by declaring a state of emergency in the party by constituting an interim committee to run its affairs.

Apparently referring to the distortion of the party zoning formula by members of the House of Representatives which voted for the emergence of Honourable Aminu Tambuwal from Bauchi state, against the party anointed candidate Honourable Mulikat Adeola Akande from South-west, the group expressed concern that the party leadership has been silent over the impudence exhibited by the federal lawmakers. 'The essence of this briefing is to take a journey through some of the events in PDP over the time. We can look at what happened in the National Assembly.

The party took a position on zoning but elected members thought otherwise. This is of serious concern. For elected members to dictate for the party, it is abysmal. It can never happen with South Africa's African National Congress (ANC).,' The group coordinator, national coordinator, Bello Godspower, however wondered why the party leadership zoned the position of Speaker to South-west in the first place when they knew that the zone has lost out to Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) during the last general election, pointing out that what happened was a protest election. The PDP Transform Network equally recommended industrialist and PDP chieftain from Adamawa State, Alhahji Bamanga Tukur for the position of the national chairman of the party.

He said since the injustice meted out to Northeast geo-political zone is going to be corrected with the position of National Chairman zoned to them, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur will provide the needed quality leadership for the ruling PDP.

'I said it is a welcome development when I read in newspapers that Tukur is a possible candidate for the position of PDP National Chairman. Tukur is a household name in this country. He has seen it all.

'He is a man that I believe can put the party together. Now, we don't need somebody that will distract the President. This is a former Director- General of Nigerian Ports Authority, a member of PDP Board of Trustees, former Minister and governor. He has been chairman of many organizations. We want a personality that will sell the party. We want a man that is disciplined, who will stand by what he said,' he added.
