ABUJA, June 12, (THEWILL) - Following the heavy down pour in the last two days in Benin City, capital of Edo State and the attendant devastating flood, the Edo Youth Coalition (EYC) Sunday took a swipe at the current administration led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to the effect that the Government has failed despite huge votes accruing to the state from Ecological funds.

In a statement signed by the image maker of EYC, Mr. Monday Okpebholo, the youth body said that the so called people-oriented Government of Governor Oshiomhole has failed to tackle the perennial problem of erosion in the state capital which has taken its toll on the populace.

Mr. Okpebholo said that scores of children died while on their way to schools following an on the spot assessment conducted by EYC as the flooding ravaged Lagos road, Oko Central and Okhoro respectively disrupting both social and economic activities.

He said the Youth Body was surprised that despite the application and subsequent release of N4.5 billion ecological fund to Edo state under Oshiomhole last year, the state is yet to witness meaningful progress in tackling erosion and flooding, pointing out that lip service has become the order of the day.

Okpebholo added that the same promise was made on the Auchi Erosion control project which was captured in last year’s budget and nothing has been done till date, remarking that the antics of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is well known as funds meant for these projects have been diverted to feather his political interest.

Okpebholo said the Governor’s re-election bid has taken the front row seat in all affairs now in the state leaving the serious important aspect of governance, reasoning that Edo should fair better than its present state, and called on the Governor to retrace his steps and reorder his priorities to give Edo People a new lease of life.
