STOCK MARKET CAPITALISATION APPRECIATES BY N12BN

Trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) resumed on an appreciative note, Tuesday, after a one-day public holiday declared by the Federal Government in commemoration of the presidential inauguration ceremony, as the value of listed equities, represented by the market capitalisation, appreciated by N11.79 billion.

Specifically, the capitalisation appreciated by 0.14 per cent to close at N8.270 trillion from N8.258 trillion at which it opened. Another key performance indices, the All share index garnered 0.14 or 36.87 bases points to close at 25,866.62 from 25,829.75 points.

Nigeria Aviation Handling Company Plc led on the gainers table rising by five per cent or N0.42 to close at N8.82 per share, Presco Plc followed with a gain of N0.38 to close at N7.99 per share and Julius Berger Nigeria Plc rose by N0.55 to close at N11.7 per share.

Other share price gainers include: Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc N0.45, Ikeja Hotel Plc N0.06, Eterna Oil Plc N0.23, Niger Insurance Plc N0.03, Nigerian Wire and Cable Plc N0.02, Unity Bank Plc N0.03, Unilever Nigeria Plc N0.65, among others.

On the contrary, May and Baker Nigeria Plc recorded a loss of 4.93 per cent or N0.2 to close at N3.86 per share, Bank PHB Plc followed with N0.06 loss to close at N1.16 per share and Fidson Healthcare Plc N0.1 to close at N1.95 per share.

Other share price losers include: Costain West Africa Plc N0.24, Prestige Assurance Plc N0.1, Union Homes Savings and Loans Plc N0.03, Afribank Plc N0.08, Japaul Oil and Maritime Services Plc N0.06, Secure Electronic Technologies Plc N0.05, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc N0.5 among others.

Equity trading plunged 4.45 per cent, as a turnover of 210.46 million shares valued at N2.25 billion was recorded in 4,960 deals, in contrast to Friday's turnover of 378.88 million shares valued at N2.39 million in 5,460 deals.

The Banking sub-sector was the most active on the sectorial analysis, accounting for 63.51 per cent of the market turnover with 133.67 million shares valued at N1.27 billion in 2,825 deals. Zenith Bank Plc dominated activities in the sub-sector trading 34.74 million shares valued at N527.77 million in 354 deals.
