UNIABUJA Appoints A New Vice Chancellor

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja has approved the appointment of Professor James Sunday Adebowale Adelabu as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the University. Professor Adelabu's appointment takes effect from 1st July 2009.

The Professor of Physics was born on 12th February 1955, in Saki East Local Government Area of Oyo State. He attended Ghana College, Tamale, Ghana between 1967 and 1972. Between 1976 and 1983, he obtained his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees at the University of Jos. Professor Adelabu then proceeded to the Essex University, Colchester, UK where he obtained his PhD in Solid State Physics in 1987.

He joined the services of the University of Abuja in October 1991 as a Senior Lecturer and rose to the position of Professor in 1997.

The new VC has held various management positions in the University, as Head, Department of Physics; Deputy Dean, College of Science and Agriculture; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic); etc.

Professor Adelabu is a seasoned scholar with dozens of publications to his credit.

He is a member of several professional organisations, among which are the Institute of Physics, London, UK; Nigerian Institute of Physics; Science Association of Nigeria, etc.

He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Physics.
