ONLY VIRILE OPPOSITION CAN BAIL NIGERIA OUT OF POLITICAL WOES -OPADOKUN

The convener of the Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reform (CODER), Mr. Ayo Opadokun has said that only virile opposition could bail the country out of political woes it had been enmeshed in since the advent of the current dispensation.

Opadokun, who made the assertion in an interview was of the view that the opposition could make the country work if they are able to put their act together to formulate a Nigerian standard.

'They need to have representatives meetings. Serious representatives meetings and not the type for publicity and media attention. They must be serious-minded. They have to sit together to formulate a Nigerian standard. The most important thing they will formulate is: this is what Nigeria should be.

This is what Nigeria ought to be. This is what Nigeria should aspire to be in the next one, two, three, four, five years,' the CODER boss noted. The former Secretary of the famous National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) took a critical assessment of successive governments in Nigeria and declared that 'their lack of vision, commitment, dedication and sensitivity to the plight of the masses has made some of us who have suffered, oppressed, killed and jailed to feel extremely uncomfortable and unhappy.'

According to him, the opposition should sit together to have that kind of discussion. 'A very passionate discussion and come up with a set of guiding rule like what is the best Nigerian standard on every subject matter to be presented to the public. Something like; if we were elected into office, this is what we shall do,' he added.

Opadokun regretted that, 'for now, honestly, the hope is in the alternate people-the elements in the opposition,' insisting that 'if they could gather themselves together, put their acts together, sit down to aggregate and take a position on the Nigeria's minimum standard, Nigeria would e better for it.
