Professor Akin Oyebode, the Head of Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, University of Lagos (UNILAG) - one of Nigeria's foremost public universities - has been appointed by the Commission of the African Union (AU) to draft the Continental Legal Framework on Cross Border Cooperation.

African frontiers, a product of contentious colonial legacy, are a source of perennial friction and rancour among neighbouring countries, in some cases resulting in protracted litigation or armed conflicts, with devastating conseque nces on the populations and a hindrance to the development of the continent.

Oyebode, a renowned jurist and international lawyer, will bring his vast knowledge and experience in jurisprudence to bear on this challenging assignment to assist the continental body on matters related to cross border collaboration and regional integration.

A former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ado-Ekiti in Nigeria's South-western state of Ekiti, Oyebode, author of seven books and over 100 learned papers, is currently Chairman, UNILAG Office on International Relations, Partner ships and Prospects.

He was educated in Kiev, Harvard and York (Toronto) universities.
