PDP IS TOWER OF BABEL - ACN SENATOR – ELECT

By NBF News

Senator-elect for Ekiti North senatorial district, Mr Bunmi Adetumbi, who contested on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a Tower of Babel in the South-West. He stated that victory of the ACN in the region in the general elections was a total destruction of the evil tower, which he described as an ill-conceived concept that could not stand the test of time.

Adetumbi, who had been in the political race since 2003, explained that the people in the South-West wanted his party, describing the collapse of PDP in the region as a true transformation from politics of power for the powerful to politics of power by the people and for the people. He expressed hope in future elections of the country, saying the just concluded one marked the turning point that put the people in charge of the decision to choose who represents them.

According to the senator-elect, his election was a major departure from what had bedeviled the state in the past, saying the people was now in charge because their votes now count. He said he would be accountable to the people and in terms of infrastructure to be attracted to the state from the Federal Government, Adetumbi explained that he would adopt participatory style in which the people would dictate what they want.

His stand on the issue of constituency allowance is that he would only present the needs of the community he represents before the legislative house for the appropriate Federal Ministries to incorporate them in their budgets.

He, however, stated clearly that he would not demand cash for the projects, but rather ensure their award and implementation.

Commenting on the outrageous allowances of senators, Adetumbi said he was not going to the legislative house to make money, saying he was in full support of part-time legislators, which, according to him, was less expensive.

He, however, suggested better economic programmes to discourage youths from falling victim of moneybags who flaunt cash during election to induce the poor to get votes.
