LAGOS, April 22, (THEWILL) – A strange fire has struck the Biodun Close, off Henry Adefowope Street, Awuse Estate, Opebi-Lagos residence of the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Founder of the Latter-Rain Assembly, Pastor Babatunde Bakare.

THEWILL gathered that the fire which completely razed the top floor of the duplex started at about 1.20 pm today and lasted for about 3.45 minutes as fire fighters battled to contain it.

No lives were however lost in the incident.
THEWILL correspondent who was at the scene reports that policemen have taken over security at the property preventing anyone from gaining access, as onlookers and Bakare watched.

Pastor Bakare declined to comment when THEWILL later contacted him via his cell phone. He said he was not in the right frame of mind to discuss the matter. He referred us to Yinka Odumakin, the media spokesman of the campaign organisation.

When contacted, Odumakin said the police had opened investigations into the incident which he said led to the destruction of assets running into several millions of naira, but added that the incident had nothing to do with politics.

“We cannot quantify the cost of the incident yet until we are able get details from experts. The Pastor’s personal effects and very vital documents were completely destroyed by the fire.

“Let us not be hasty with our judgement, we will wait for the police to complete their investigation,” Odumakin added.
