Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State has thanked the natives of the state for coming out en mass to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during last Saturday's presidential election.

The PDP led other parties in the election with a total of 484,758 votes out of the 863,544 total valid votes cast.

In a statement made available to journalists in the state and jointly signed by the Director-General, Akala/Arapaja Campaign Organisation, Chief Demola Ojo, and its Director of Media and Publicity, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, the governor said he was happy with the way people trooped out peacefully and freely gave the PDP their votes.

'As the voters did last week Saturday when they gave the PDP majority votes, they have again voted to give the PDP the much needed support to be able to win the presidential contest, which has shown that the PDP is in a comfortable control of Oyo State. For this, we remain grateful.' the statement said.

Akala added that with the massive support the party received during Saturday's election, it was clear that Oyo State stood to reap ample benefits from the presidency, if the PDP candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, eventually won the election. The governor then appealed to the people of the state give him the same support by voting him on April 26 as the governor of the state.

In the same vein, the state chapter of the PDP had commended the people of the state for their overwhelming support. The party described the support as a solid evidence of the desire of the people of the state to retain their unbroken link with the central government controlled by the PDP.
