UN chief to open meeting of university presidents on women empowerment

The Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will on Monday visit the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, United States, to open the 5th meeting of the Global Colloquium of university presidents, his spokesperson announced today.

The Global Colloquium is a network of international university presidents who are committed to addressing global public policy problems. Some 30 university presidents from around the world will attend Monday's event.

The theme of this year's meeting is “Empowering Women to Change the World: What

Universities and the UN Can Do.”
Participants will discuss the global challenges to empowering women and girls and what universities and the United Nations can do to advance participation and leadership of women in their societies and the global community.
