KANO, March 29, (THEWILL) - No fewer than 100 supporters of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Kano sustained various degree of injuries today at a rally organized for the Presidential candidate of the party, General Muhammadu Buhari.

The tragedy occurred at the Kano Race Course where thousands of party supporters had gathered for the rally.

THEWILL correspondent in Kano observed that one of the corrugated iron tents erected at the venue suddenly collapsed, injuring quite a number of supporters.

There was however no report of any deaths as at the time of filing this reports, but fire service personnel and a rescue team who were notified of the tragedy made it to the scene in a dash and moved the wounded to the hospital.

The unprecedented crowd that attended the rally did not allow General Buhari disembark from the black Toyota Land Cruiser SUV that brought him to the venue, making it impossible to address the crowd that had waited for more than 6 hours for his arrival.

He was forced to remain inside the vehicle for over an hour waving to supporters before zooming off to the airport.

Meanwhile, Buhari while on a courtesy visit to the Emir of Kano said he would not raise the hand of any candidate, using the recent litigations that characterized the governorship primaries in the state as an excuse.

He told the Emir that he was in Kano to solicit the support of residents for his presidential ambition.

Responding, the Emir told the CPC Presidential candidate that the emirate prays for the emergence of the best candidate for the country that would give the people good leadership.
