A massive and excited crowd turned out on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 to witness the presidential rally of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The rally, which defied all attempts by the Rivers State government and its agencies to scuttle it, gave the people of the state the opportunity to hear from the beloved presidential candidate of the party, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu on their own soil.

The rally also afforded Rivers ACN faithfuls and their teeming supporters in the state and beyond the luxury of interacting, first-hand with other people behind the success story of the ACN in Nigeria and Rivers State, notable among whom the party's national chairman, Chief Bisi Akanbi, former governor of Lagos State, Chief Bola Tinubu, Chief Tom Ikiri and the Rivers State governorship candidate, Dr Abiye Sekibo who received his flag for the governorship race in the state at the occasion.

However, the Rivers State government lived true to its ugly character when operatives of TIMARIV and mobile courts acting on the orders of Governor Rotimi Amaechi flooded the city of Port Harcourt and vicinities of the Liberation Stadium in obviously unusual manners that merely sought to make things difficult for the party.

Earlier in a statement, the Director, Directorate of Publicity and communication, Abiye Sekibo Campaign Organization, Jerry Needam had raised alarm over the invasion of the city by mobile courts at the instance of the governor just to hinder free flow of traffic and harass drivers conveying party supporters.

The director's fears played out at the rally without a remainder, a development he described as unfortunate and very unlawful as it runs foul of the electoral law which demands equal political space and fair treatment to all parties.

For the huge success recorded at the campaign rally despite the insidious plots, Jerry Needam thanked all members of the ACN and supporters who overcame the plots and turned out enmass to partake in and witness the broom revolution of the ACN which promises to give Nigerians a new lease of life and place them in their rightful positions among their peers all over the world.
