Support for Gbemi; Saraki tells Obas, Teachers not to fret over sack threat

FORMER Senate leader, Dr Olusola Saraki has advised traditional rulers in Kwara State not to fret at the antics of the state government which has threatened to downgrade those who fail to support the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP.) in the coming general elections.

Speaking during a campaign tour of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN)  to Oyun Local Government Area of the state Dr Saraki said he has heard stories that the government was trying to hoodwink royal fathers to support the PDP while also threatening those who fail to do so.

“We have witnessed this type of  tactic before. It will fail, because this government cannot do anything in three weeks,” Dr Saraki said at the palace of Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba Abdulganiyu Ajibola.

The strongman of Kwara politics also accused the PDP government of “indiscriminate and punitive “transfer of teachers who allegedly showed sympathy for other parties beside PDP.

“I am sure after the elections, they will come back to beg for forgiveness,” he said even as he revealed   that he was passing through a “difficult” political phase in his life.

Dr Saraki deplored the recourse to   violence by politicians and promised to ensure that those who engage in violent conduct in the state are brought to face justice.

 He said he is promoting the governorship bid of her daughter, Senator Gbemisola Saraki because she is capable, reliable and trustworthy.

 
“My interest is the peace, progress and rapid development of Kwara Sate,” Dr Saraki remarked, and added: “I have never considered religion or ethnic affinity in supporting any candidate for governor.”

Oba Ajibola described Dr Saraki as “the political icon of our time” who has fought great political battles.

“H e is one of the most eminent politicians left in Nigeria. Once he takes a political position, whoever says no must be going astray,” Oba Ajibola said amidst shouts of Oloye, Oloye.

The Onira of Irra, Oba Wahab Oyetoro traced the history of long relationship with Dr Saraki and promised to support his political affiliations at all times.
