Katsina, March 15, (THEWILL) - Five persons including the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema of Katsina State, ASP Aminu Ibrahim, were killed instantly when the governor’s convoy was involved in an accident along Daura road early Tuesday.


The accident which occurred in Zakaliya Village of Mashi local government council along Katsina-Daura road around 9: 45 am, involved the governor’s official vehicle, a black Land Rover Range Rover SUV and a commercial bus with registration number XA 668 ZAR.


An eyewitness, Nasiru Abubakar told THEWILL that the driver of the commercial bus “was obviously scared when he heard blaring sirens and lost control thereby hitting the governor’s car.”


Our source said the accident occurred when the governor’s vehicle was trying to meander through vehicular traffic adding “we heard screeching of tyres and the police in the governor’s convoy condoned the area.”

It was gathered that the driver of the commercial bus was among those who lost their lives just as ten others were said to been receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina.

Governor Shema emerged from the crash distraught with bruises and proceeded to Daura to meet Jonathan.

Confirming the accident, the FRSC sector commander in Katsina State, Habu Dauda attributed the crash to “failure to move over and careless driving.”


Our correspondent reports that Shema was on his way to Daura to receive President Goodluck Jonathan who was scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Emir of Daura as part of his Presidential campaign stomp in the state.
