By NBF News

Zamfara State government in partnership with a Nigerian company, BSM Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd has completed four helipads for Helicopter operations in Gusau, the state capital.

The completion of the helipad will reduce the long and tortuous journey from Sokoto, Abuja, Kano and Kaduna airports to Gusau.

The helipad's will also fill the gap between the airports in Abuja, Sokoto, Kaduna and Kano , thus reducing the time that will be wasted on roads and exposure, from the airports to Gusau, in Zamfara State.

The Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi in a statement commended the management of BSM on the level of work done so far. He lauded BSM Consortium for taking cognizance of local content as the labour employed on the site are the indigenes of villages nearby, adding, 'It is good that my people are the ones constructing on the site. I can easily identify them and I am happy that they are not only being employed, they are happy working here.'

Lateef Lai Ogungadero, the Chairman of BSM Consortium thanked Shinkafi for the support. He attributed the success they have made to the assistance of the governor. His words: 'This is just the beginning as BSM is determined to make the Refinery and Cargo Airport a reality. We have started, we are marching on. The helipad is just to facilitate movement to site and also for the use of the people of Zamfara.' At completion, the refinery will provide fuel as it is expected to function at full capacity. It will also provide employment for the people of Zamfara.

The governor had in February 2010 executed a Memorandum of Agreement in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on the promotion and commencement of projects implementation in Zamfara State.

Nigeria's Ambassador to Romania , Mr. Mba Ama Mba had written a letter to the Minister of Petroleum Resources; the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC); the Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC);  and Minister, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to support the initiative.
