IT'S TIME TO REINVENT EBONYI -NWAZE

By NBF News

The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) House of Representatives candidate for Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency of Ebonyi state, Mr Halifax Nwaze, has challenged the electorates to ensure that they make the right decision by voting candidates who would put the interest of the people first.

According to him, a paradigm shift that would eradicate political deception and moral bankruptcy was needed to reinvent the state. Pledging to offer effective representation to the constituency if elected, he volunteered: 'The sorry state of Ebonyi state and the poor conditions of my people are the main motivating factors for me in accepting to vie to be a member of the lower chamber of the National Assembly. It is a decision that I take very seriously. I have also fasted, prayed and sought the blessings of God as well as the support of the people before setting out'.

In an interview, the renowned technocrat and philanthropist maintained that his constituents are terribly disappointed with the empty promises, economic deprivation and quality of representation they have endured in this dispensation hence they are yearning for a change.

Nwaze also eulogized the media for the role it played in the enthronement of democracy in the country, saying: 'I believe that the fruits of democracy Nigeria is enjoying today are, to a great extent, the result of the sacrifices made by the media and the pursuit of the goal of deepening our democracy and holding politicians accountable to the people they are supposed to represent. The media should be vigilant to ensure that the peoples will or wish prevail during the election.'

Mission to Abuja
My mission to Abuja is well thought-out. I have a blue print of what I intend to do or achieve and how to go about it. I did not just wake up one morning and decided to vie to represent the people. To start with, I am not anybody's errand boy having made a success of my past endeavours. We all know that there are many people prancing about the political stage just because they have nothing doing. I am in politics to effect changes in the condition of the people of Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency in particular and Ebonyi state in general. I am going to Abuja to help formulate and pass legislations that will attract back to the state the best and brightest brains of Nigerian citizens who are indigenes of Ebonyi scattered all over the world. By so doing, we will reverse the brain drain, which has plagued our state and begin the process of brain gain to the state.

I am going to Abuja to seek better lives for our women - mothers, wives and sisters - who are increasingly bearing the burden, not only of child birth in our substandard hospitals, but who are now shouldering the responsibilities of bread winners of their respective families. I am going to Abuja to adequately represent our teeming unemployed youths who have lost hope in the educational system and who see that the certificates that they laboured hard to acquire can no longer get them jobs. I will assist to legislate to attract not just federal presence but also private sector participation that will provide jobs for our youths. I am going to Abuja to fight for the restructuring of the country to ensure true federalism. In fact, I will not be a bench warmer or dead wood just occupying precious space in the hallowed chambers like we have witnessed in the past.

My track record
I am not a stranger to the people. They know my antecedents and, therefore, have no doubt about my capability or what I stand for. I am not a career politician but a manager of men and materials, who is equipped to bring out the best of every given situation. Indeed, I have what it takes to bring about the desired change in the lives of our people who have suffered enough. In my personal capacity or as a private individual, I have been making efforts to transform people as I transformed myself. Things just cannot continue to remain the way they are in Ebonyi.

My chances
I have no doubt whatsoever that I will win if the election is free and fair because the people have never hidden their love for me. Indeed, the people of the state want a change because since the PDP has been in power, the lots and lives of Nigerians have only worsened. I represent that change the people desire. Of course, I do know that it will not be a piece of cake to change the status quo but we are determined and resolute to restore the confidence of the people. The huge potentials of the state have not been achieved since it was created on October 1, 1996 because of the caliber and insensitivity of the people at the helm of affairs. Because our people are tired of being on motion without movement, they are ready to vote out those who have toyed with their destiny over the years. I believe that the wind of change sweeping across the world will get to Ebonyi where it is highly needed. I will not fail to add that that I have the added advantage of coming from the same community as the National chairman of the ANPP, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, whose clout is beyond doubt.

Message to your constituency
My message to the good but long suffering people of Ebonyi state in general and Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency in particular is that of hope. I am bringing my wealth of management experience in the private sector acquired in almost three decades to bear so that their conditions would improve considerably. It is, indeed, a thing of sadness that the PDP representative of my constituency in the House of Representatives has not made any meaningful contribution or made any impact towards ameliorating their condition but all that will soon change. My message to the career politicians, who have taken the people for granted for so long, is that their time is up. I have come to chart a completely new course and to restore the faith and confidence of our people in their representative. We will no longer have a representative who will go to Abuja and sit without sponsoring any meaningful legislation that will benefit the people.
