NIGERIAN AIR FORCE TO PROVIDE AIR SUPPORT FOR INEC -AIR FORCE CHIEF

The Nigerian Air Force said it has commenced talks with the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the proper airlifting of electoral materials just few months to national election.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar, who disclosed this at the weekend, said the INEC had contacted the force and arrangements had been concluded for airlifting of election material to riverine and mountainous areas.

Air Marshal Umar said: 'We are part of the national security outfit and we are working with our sister services to ensure we have a hitch free election. The Nigerian Air Force has the capability to lift election materials and personnel.'

The Chief of Air Staff said the force was well equipped to ensure proper transportation by air of INEC materials to very difficult areas, adding that the Federal Government had been able to support the force by providing new aircraft in its inventory.

The Air Force chief, who spoke while commissioning the Nigerian Air Force Wives Association (NAFOWA) computer centre, which was built in partnership with New Horizon Computer Learning Centre, said information technology was important to the operation of the Nigerian Air Force, hence the priority it had accorded it.

He said: 'We are highly technical service and equipment the world over are run through computer technology and we cannot run our service without the knowledge and skill acquired through information and communication technology. So, it is our priority and we are going to accord it utmost priority in our quest to move the service forward.'
