LAGOS, Feb 26, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) former National Deputy Chairman, Chief Olabode George was this morning released from the Kirikiri Prison by authorities having served out his two-year sentence.

He was released at about 10.50am to loyalists, party men and family who thereafter celebrated his release with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of Christ in Marina and an elaborate reception.

He was driven off the facility in a 2010 Black Toyota Prado SUV in a convoy of vehicles including commercial buses chartered by loyal party men.

The politician was convicted on several criminal counts of fraud, over inflation of contract and money laundering amongst others while he was Chairman of the Board of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Some top party men at the church service include Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel; Oyo State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja; former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; Defence Minister, Mr. Adetokunbo Ademola; Dr. Adegboyega Dosunmu and General Tajudeen Olarewaju amongst other dignitaries.
