ASABA, Feb 21, (THEWILL) - A former Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Anthony Ogbo, who survived an assassination attempt in the hands of yet to be identified gunmen inside his Ibusa town residence on Wednesday, February 16, has accused the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Peter Nwaoboshi of orchestrating the plot.

Addressing Journalists on his hospital bed during an interview, the politician said authorities should hold Nwaoboshi responsible if he or family members are assassinated.

Narrating his ordeal, Hon. Ogbo, a former Executive Media Assistant to the 2007 Action Congress (AC) now Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) governorship candidate, Mr. Peter Okocha, alleged that, “On Tuesday, February 15th, 2011 at about 10 pm, one Louis Ndukwe, former 2007 AC House of Assembly candidate, Mr. Innocent Eseneze; one Otokoto and others who are thugs to Nwaoboshi visited my house and started banging at my gate but could not gain entrance.

On the following day, Wednesday, February 16th, 2011 the same persons called me on phone at about 8:30am that they were at my house and that they were sent by the state PDP chairman, Nwaoboshi to come and draw a debt that I owed him. When they got to my compound they started banging at my gate again, until one of them gained entrance into my compound through the fence of a neighbouring compound and started shooting sporadically. Immediately, it dawned on me that my life and that of my family were no longer safe I had to escape through my backyard where I sustained a severe injury before I put call across to the police who then came to rescue me and rushed me to the hospital for treatment,” Ogbo stated.

He added that he was not indebted to Nwaoboshi in any form saying that his disagreements with the PDP state Chairman was purely political.

“Nwaoboshi’s fear is that because I have continually refused to support the candidates which he has continued to impose on the people and since a lot of persons have already decamped to the Accord Party, I may as well decamp to Accord Party with all my supporters as a leader of PDP in my council area. Nwaoboshi’s stock in trade is maligning people and I repeat, I do not owe Peter Nwaoboshi a dime.”

Hon. Ogbo disclosed that he has since reported the case at the ‘A’ Division Police Station in Asaba while appealing to the security agents to bring to book all those involved in the attempt to assassinate him.

When contacted on phone, the state PDP Chairman, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi debunked the alleged assassination attempt on Hon. Ogbo adding that, “He is a blatant liar. I only sent some persons to his house to draw my debt. Some time ago he came to my house and was begging me profusely to lend him N2 Million to buy a car that his former boss, Chief Peter Okocha wanted to withdraw the car given to him and it will be a shameful thing seeing him going about without a car. So as a friend and someone I have known for long, I lent him the N2 million in the presence of those I sent to his house to draw the debt and these persons are my witnesses when I gave him the N2 million and its over a year now, he has refused to pay me,” the PDP Chairman stated.

Adding that, “When he came for the money he said he had some plots of land and after selling them he would pay me but as I talk to you now he has not paid me back. Let him swear if he does not owe me N2 million. I have told the police that if I can not collect back my money through the legal means, he should come out and swear in the traditional way that I didn’t lend him such huge amount of money. If he likes let him address a million press or run to anywhere but what I know is that he must pay me back that my N2 Million.”
