MONARCH, 3 OTHERS ARRAIGNED OVER THREAT TO LIFE IN ANAMBRA

The traditional ruler of Mmiata Anam in Anambra west local government area, Igwe Sylvester Nnose, was yesterday arraigned alongside three others at the chief magistrates court 2, Otuocha, for alleged threat to life of an Onitsha-based lawyer, Mr Emma Uduaka.

Others joined in the charge, are Obinna Nnose and Chinedu Igbanugo Mmeze, amongst others.

According to the charge, the royal father mobilized members of his family to attack Uduaka at his Ogbuevi Oguguo Jiobu's residence at Isiocha Mmiata Anam on September 29, 2010, when he(Uduaka) was having a family meeting.

The charge further stated that Uduaka was given the beating of his life by Igwe Nnose and his group which resulted in his admission at the General hospital, Onitsha, where he stayed for seven days for medical treatment.

When the case came up at the Magistrate court, the 1st- 4th defendants were present and pleaded not guilty to the charges on each of them.

The counsel for the defendants applied for bail for the accused persons which Uduaka for the prosecution did not oppose on ground that it was a bailable offence.

While the traditional ruler was granted bail on self-recognition, the magistrate ordered that theĀ  the 2nd -4th defendants must present a reliable surety that has 3 years tax clearance certificate, swear an affidavit of means, provide two passport photographs and must be resident within the jurisdiction.

The matter was adjourned to March 22, 2011, for hearing.
