Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has joined hands with amateur side City of David United to develop youth football.

Siasia, who was at the launching of the Oniru Community Cup in Lagos on Sunday, was optimistic the competition would produce young talents capable of playing in the national teams.

'Some of the young players don't have the fundamentals of football that's why they have problems in their careers when they grow up,' Siasia said.

'When we talk about age cheats in our football, the solution is to get player of proper ages from Principals Cup and youth competition like this one. Some of the players who lied about their ages usually fade out when they are expected to play at their peak.

'I'm happy COD United has come up with this competition because it means we can get the youths off the street and make them productive. Even as an amateur side, COD United is not known to influence match officials to get their way, that means we can be certain of getting quality players of good morals for the national teams.'

Siasia said the quality of the players during the competition would determine if any player would be invited to the national teams.

'There are scouts everywhere who will monitor the competition and the players,' he said.

'I cannot do it alone but the scouts will bring to my attention players of high quality that will my programmes.'
