SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 23, (THEWILL) – Did you register to vote in the April general election and did not have your fingerprints captured by electoral officials? The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wants you to go back to the same registration centre to re-register and get their fingerprints captured in the Direct Data Capture (DDC) machines.

A statement today signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Abdullahi Kaugame, said, "all those who have been registered without their fingerprints captured on the DDC machines are required to go back and register to be eligible to vote".

Mr. Kaugame said that INEC investigations indicated that some eligible Nigerians are being registered without having their fingerprints captured. He stressed that the only way to avoid multiple registration is to have fingerprints of eligible voters.

"Such registrants must present themselves to INEC registration officials where they had previously registered, surrender their temporary voters’ cards to these officials after which they will be re-registered on the same machine and issued with new cards".

The commission said it has issued guidelines to all Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) to implement the directive.
