MEND Denies Issuing Threats Of Ferocious Attacks
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 19, (THEWILL) – The main militant group operating in the Niger Delta, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has denied issuing threats of a massive attack on the downstream sector of the oil and Gas industry.
A statement today from the same email address authored by the same pseudo name, Gbomo Jomo said it would only issue statements after it has executed an attack.
"The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) denies in its totality the recent warning of an attack on the downstream oil sector.
"We will be investigating the situation and will take appropriate actions to prevent this from recurring in the future," Gbomo Jomo said.
MEND however remains divided following disagreements on the Federal Government backed amnesty programme which offered various mouth-watering deals to top militant leaders in return for cessation of hostilities in the oil-rich Niger Delta.
