ABUJA, Jan 16, (THEWILL) - The ongoing registration of voters will affect legislative work as the Senate today postponed its resumption by one week to enable its members to participate actively in the exercise. The exercise kicked off nationwide on Saturday.

Similarly, the House of Representatives also announced that it has moved its resumption date by one week citing the same reason.

The Senate was scheduled to resume plenary and other legislative activities on Tuesday January 18, after the Christmas and New Year holidays. They will now resume on Tuesday, January 25.

A two-paragraph statement signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Benedict Ofeturi and obtained by THEWILL said: “This to inform all Distinguished senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the Senate will reconvene on Tuesday 25, 2011 at 10.00am instead of Tuesday January 18, 2011.

“This will allow the distinguished senators in their wards to participate fully in the voter registration exercise,” the statement said.

Recall that the Senate embarked on the Christmas and New Year vacation on Wednesday December 22, 2010 after receiving the budget 2011 from President Goodluck Jonathan on December 15, 2010, at a joint session with the House of Representatives.
