ODDS FAVOUR OBIORA, MADUABUM, FOR ANAMBRA ACN TICKET

By NBF News

The incumbent Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Ikechukwu Obiora, his colleague in the lower chamber, CID Maduabum and Vitalis Okafor were among the aspirants favoured to clinch the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) tickets today as the party holds its primaries in Anambra.

The exercise, which would be conducted via Option A4 would be held in every ward in the state and produc candidates for the party in the coming general elections.

ACN is currently the beautiful bride among the parties in the state following the entry of some politicians seen as models in the state including Senator Obiora and Hon Maduabum.

Already, the entire state is agog for the ACN primaries with high expectations that it would be different from that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) which had been widely condemned. People had always seen the party as one to be looked up to in the state.

Meanwhile, the party leadership had allayed the fears that it had anointed some aspirants to be returned as candidates. He noted that the choice of Option A4 was to ensure that  the primaries was free, fair and transparent.

The leader of the party in the state and former governor, Dr. Chris Ngige told Daily Sun yesterday that every aspirant would be given equal opportunity and a level playing ground, adding that the postponement of the exercise from Monday to today was to give the new entrants the opportunity to register their supporters.

He said, 'There is nothing like anointed or preferred candidates. We are going to give every aspirant both new and old, a level playing ground. We are building a party that is disciplined and respects the rule of law and we will not toe the line of other parties.

'It is in line with this that we shifted the primaries to tomorrow (today) so that the new people would be able to register their supporters in the party because the primaries will be done on Option A4 basis, so that the whole thing would be done there, counted there and announced there so that everybody takes away the result. We want the best to emerge so that we will be able to win the election and also have the confidence of the people.'

Already, the spirits of the people of the state are high for today's primaries and feelers coming from Anambra South Senatorial zone indicate that Senator Obiora, Hon Maduabum for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency and Hon. Okafor for Ihiala Federal Constituency are likely to carry the day in their various constituencies.

At press time, all the aspirants and the electoral team from Abuja were holding meetings apparently to streamline ways of ensuring a hitch-free primaries.
