Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega has acknowledged that there were flaws in the electoral process in the Delta state governorship rerun election.

Jega, who admitted that the existing voters register lacks credibility and needed to be revalidated, said that the Appeal court order which nullified the April 2007 election and gave 90 days deadline did not permit INEC time to revalidate the former voters' register for the purpose of the rerun election.

He noted that the Delta rerun poll was the first opportunity for the commission to organize a governorship election.'The existing register lacks credibility and needed to be revalidated. We took the business very serious and made adequate preparations by learning from past mistakes to meet the aspirations of Nigerians for a free and fair election.'
