Open Letter To Amaechi On Osima Ginah

By Odimegwu Onwumere

Your Excellency, how are you today? I know that you must be wreathing in stress over the many works you are committed to doing in Rivers State. That is commitment. "People do not follow uncommitted leaders. Commitment can be displayed in a full range of matters to include the work hours you choose to maintain, how you work to improve your abilities, or what you do for your fellow workers at personal sacrifice," said a Stephen Gregg Chairman and CEO of Ethix Corp.

I would not know if you are aware that your name resonates in the state albeit you don't welcome praise singing. But the truth must be told and if you stand more than the way you are handling development in the state, you will standout among your equals in the annals of Nigeria. Bravo!

The recent dissolution of your cabinet and the later re-appointment of some of them into the new cabinet have bought you my deep reverence but most especially the recalling of Barrister Osimah Gina. But where is my Ogbonna Nwuke, your former Information Commissioner who reshaped the opaque information we were receiving in the government you succeeded?

Barrister Gina is a name that would take time to fizzle out in the history of Rivers State, in good light, because of the good work he's committed to doing in the Ministry of Urban Development which he led.

Your gesture in recalling this orator has earned you more respect that truly you don't need buffoons around you. Your idea in recalling this dude has started generating applause in many quarters.

It might interest you to know that even a group that goes by the name Niger Delta Watch Network is also agog. According to the Rivers AC Publicity Secretary, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze said that President, Secretary General and Representatives from each of the States within Niger Delta on 9th June, 2009 paid a visit to Barrister Osima Ginah the erstwhile Commissioner of Urban Development of Rivers State at his Port Harcourt residence to congratulate him on his reappointment as member of your State Executive council. Excerpts of the congratulatory message at the occasion read by its Secretary General, Gogo Ada-Rufus, went thus; “...as a body set up for the purpose of proper monitoring and assessment of the performances of Public Office Holders within the South-South region, we want to formally commend Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi , Executive Governor of Rivers State for the decisive and wise decision in his reappointment of Ginah. Barr. Ginah's reappointment is an acknowledgement and revalidation of his antecedents in administration, love and total commitment towards Rivers State. His reappointment though a welcome development did not come to us as a surprise, as our past assessment of Public Office Holders in the region has always placed him in the forefront, way ahead of his counterparts, as being one of the most consistent articulate and proactive Public office holders in the region.

People are proud of Osimah's past conduct considering the responsibilities that

accompanied the huge task of urban renewal and redevelopment he was faced with. Within a short period, Ginah turned Port Harcourt, once regarded, as a garbage city into a civilized and beautiful city. This is something worth celebrating.

To the Rivers AC, Barr. Osima Ginah has been a dynamic Ambassador of the Party in your Unity Government with his antecedents in the last cabinet, people are therefore hopeful that additional slots will be filled by deserving nominees from the AC after the reappointment of Dr. Ibiamu Davies if achievement and commitment are some of the parameters for reconstituting the new cabinet. It should be noted that Barr Ginah has in the past few months received the following awards - Int'l Ambassador for Peace by Peace Ambassadors, an interreligious & Inter-ethics World Peace Organisation, Fellow Certified Institute Of Certified Institute of Management, Nigeria Award by Certified Institute of Nigeria, Nigerian Democratic Pillars Merit Award, Sublime Achiever Award by Spynet Communications, Int'l Role Model Leadership Gold Award, Diamond Merit Award for Patriotic Africans, Meritorous Diamond Award for National Development, Africa Leader of Integrity Merit Award by Trailblazers Magazine, Ambassador of Development by National Union of Ogoni Students Worldwide; Developmental Achievers Award by Times International before this particular one that excites him so much by Niger Delta Watch Network,(Distinguished Award of Excellence).

I wish you good leadership, Your Excellency. You have really done well by recalling Orator Osimah Ginah. He is a man called the Bulldozer because of the good work he did in the urban development ministry without fear or favour.
