ABUJA, Dec 28, (THEWILL) - A gubernatorial aspirant of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has condemned those behind the transportation of a truckload of arms and ammunition into Ogun State and called for police investigation. He said the development is dastardly and despicable as it has grave implication for peace and unity of the country.

It will be recalled that the Nigeria police had last Monday night, impounded a truckload of arms and ammunition at a location in Ijebu-Ode and has since detained the truck at a police station in the town.

A statement from the Senator Ibikunle Amosun Campaign Organisation, said the 2007 gubernatorial candidate while commending the police for its vigilance, called for a through and in-depth investigation to unmask those behind the lethal weapons seized by the police.

He pointed out that the development portends a bad omen for the 2011 election polls in the state as well as the country as it might be the handiwork of some do-or-die politicians.

Amosun said the development coming just after the unfortunate Christmas bombing in Jos, Plateau state during which over 80 people were killed and the attacks on some churches in Maiduguri that claimed over six lives, law enforcement agents should not take the development lightly.

He pointed out that merchants of death and violence in the country might be planning an encore of the Jos violence in the state.
