The Election is a disgrace - Oni

By Lere Olayinka

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni has described the Moba LG bye-election as a disgrace to INEC and Nigeria as a country.

Oni, who was speaking with journalists in his Ifaki-Ekiti residence called on the INEC chairman, Prof Atahiru Jega to cancel the election and organise a fresh one to be directly supervised by the chairman himself.

"From what has happened today, this country is indeed in trouble.

"People who go about sermonising on one-man, one-vote were the ones who invaded Moba with thugs, snatched ballot boxes and unleached terror on the people. This shameful!

"If Jega is serious about free and fair election in 2011, he ought to have used this election in just 49 polling units to show Nigerians that. He should have even supervise it directly so that he can learn from it but he has allowed the whole thing to be messed up," Oni said.

Calling for outright cancellation of the election; Oni said; "Even if the election is eventually won by the PDP, its credibily is questionable.

"Therefore, Jega can only show Nigerians that he is serious about 2011, he should cancel the election and organise a fresh one to be monitored by all Nigerians including Jega himself."
