ABUJA, Dec 19, (THEWILL) - The Abia State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) is fast cascading to major crises as two factions emerged to hold different congresses to elect officers that would man the affairs of the party in the run up to the election.

A faction led by Chief Paul Ikonne, a gubernatorial candidate of the party was said to have held its congress penultimate week to elect officers.

However, the National Working Committee of the party was reported to have declared the outcome of the congress illegal hence would not recognize the executive that emerged from it.

Consequently, the NWC dispatched a six-man team led by Chief Ralph N. Okeke from Anambra state to the state to organize a fresh congress to elect what they called ‘all inclusive officers to run the fairs of the party in the state’.

Okeke was also assisted by a 6-man local organizing committee (LOC) headed by Mr. Okey Nwaguru.

At the congress held at the party’s state secretariat, Mission Hill road Umuahia, the members elected Mr. Obi Aham as the Chairman and Gospel Nwankpa emerged the Secretary.

Others elected at the well attended congress were; Chigbu Nwagbara (Deputy State Chiarman), Prince Agbai (Zonal Vice Chairman, Abia North), Mr. Lawrence Onyeukwu (Zonal Vice Chairman, Abia Central), Hon. Omen Olujie (Zonal Vice Chairman, Abia South), Mrs. Adaku Abel (Financial Secretary), Barr. Ume Ogbonna (legal Adviser), Barr. Victor Onweremadu (Asst. Legal Adviser), Lolo Josephine Chigbu (woman Leader), J and Mazi Ngumoha Nwogwugwu (Welfare Officer).

It is however not clear if the party will resolve its internal issues before the general elections to stand a chance of defeating the Governor Theodore Orji led PDP administration in the state.

However, a governorship aspirant of the party, Barrister Nath Ngozi Ikeocha said the party is ready to takeover power and salvage the state from palpable ruin.
