FRAGRANCE: THE SINGER, THE PERFORMER
If you are meeting her for the very first time, one thing that will first strike you is her beautiful face and the excellent physique that would even make Naomi Campbell grey with envy. But behind that beautiful face and figure is a hidden talent a lot of Nigerians who have had a stint with her referred as phenomenon. Just once in a long while, you get to meet an artiste who is really beautiful, can really sing and can really dance, In this case it is FRAGRANCE.
Born Shema, Tosan Bridget Kayoh to an Itsekiri Father and a Mother who is half Scottish and half Effurun-Urhobo, in Warri Delta State, FRAGRANCE is easily one of the most international female acts on whom the sun is just rising.
Like most singers, she started singing in church at a really tender age but went professional in May 2006 when she called her present manager Ena Ofugara who invited her to Lagos and introduced her to D&I Entertainment under which Label she released her debut album in January 2007.
The album aptly titled “So Lovely” has indeed been exceptional with over four of the singles making it to N1 spot on almost all the radio stations. The single “FREE” was N1 on Rhythm 93.7 and N2 on Glo Charts available on Magic plus for over five weeks. It was prevented from going N1 by a 2face song “True Love” Faze's monster-hit Kpokpodikpo was N3 at same period.
“Lover N Friend” featuring Rocksteady was N1 on Eko FM, N3 on Rhythm FM and the video did well on the SoundCity chart as then presented by Deji.
The single “IF You Plan To Break my Heart was N1 on independent Radio Benin, JFM Warri and did very well on Metro FM Lagos Charts.The Video “Shake Shake” got to N2 spot on sound city.
More impressive however, is that less than four months of her album release and less than eight months in her First time of stepping into a vocal booth FRAGRANCE got two nominations for BEST VOCAL R&B and BEST NEW ARTISTE (FEMALE) at the prestigious AMEN awards.
Despite the strength of her voice which top producers and fellow artistes including Don Jazzy and Faze are saying is unrivalled among the females, FRAGRANCE's major asset is her stagesmanship. “SHE CAN PERFORM” Says Mode9. Her performances at Mr. Nigeria, Pasuma & Friends, and The Junior Reid show in Port Harcourt etc show a really talented and well-rounded artiste.
FRAGRANCE has also been doing collaborations which already include one with FREESTYLE in his forthcoming album, and Rymzo.
FRAGRANCE, according to his manager, Ena, is scheduled to do collabos with FAZE, 2FACE, in her sophomore album “The Belladonna Sings” a project she is already deeply into.
FRAGRANCE says of her First album “In spite of how well my First album was received, it is not a true reflection of what I am capable of, I did it all using one producer (Sherif) one studio (underground studios Ajegunle owned by Snoop Da Damaja of Rhythm 93.7) one engineer (Snoop) and all in one month. I will have different producers like OJB, RYMZO, JOKAYNIE, DSMART, COBHAMS, PUFFY T e.t.c on this my next project. If German and Dutch radio can like my song “FREE” then this second work should really take me to the international horizon.” She informed us.
