JOS, Dec 06, (THEWILL) – Mrs. Rifkatu Umaru wife of Brigadier General Hassan Umaru, the Commander of the Special Military Task Force maintaining peace In Jos, Plateau State is dead. Her body was discovered in a water well near her house raising suspicion that she may have been murdered.


But the police in Jos have said her death was accidental adding that the late businesswoman mistakenly fell into the well and drowned.


But family sources told THEWILL that they fear she was murdered by yet to be identified assailants who thereafter dumped her remains in the well.


Rifkatu, who operated a popular restaurant ‘Reeves Heritage Kitchen’ at the National Commission for Museum and Monument Jos, was reported to have returned on a day-trip on Saturday from a wedding, which she attended with friends at Bokkos Local Government Area of the state. Sources told THEWILL that she was dropped off close to her Army Engineering Jos residence at about 8:30 pm.


THEWILL gathered that no one has been able account for her whereabouts until her body was found in a well in her neighbourhood on Sunday morning by residents who had gone to fetch water from the well.


Her body has since been retrieved by soldiers of the Special Task Force and taken to the Air Force Hospital mortuary in Jos.


The Special Task Force could not be reached for an official statement but the new Plateau Police Commissioner, Mr. Abdulrahman Akanno confirmed the death of Mrs. Umaru.


Akanno declared her death accidental saying she fell into the well while walking home on Saturday night.
