Akwa Ibom spends N250 Billion on 205 Roads

The Akwa Ibom state Government has spent a whooping N250 Billion on the construction of 205 road networks in the state between 2007 and 2010. The roads cover over 600 kilometers of state and federal roads.

The Secretary to the State Government, Umana Umana, made this disclosure in Uyo in chat with pointblanknews.com. Umana who said the state spends 80 percent of its budget on capital projects maintained that the administration's massive investment in road construction is a fulfillment of Governor Godswill Akpabio's election campaign promise.

A trip around the state by pointblanknews.com reveal that the investments include the 29 km Etim Itam-Ekom Imam Road; Abak-Ikot Ekpene Road, three flyovers in Uyo; Afagha Obong –Etim Ekpo-Iwukem Road; Ibom airport Road; 25 roads in Ikot Ekpene; Etebi-Ewang Road; 37 roads networks in Eket metropolis and suburbs, 34 in Oron, 18 in Ikot Abasi, the Ikot Ntan-Obiokpok-Afagha-Offiong –Mbiokporo II-Ikot Edibon-Itreto (sections I and II).

Others are Ikot Asua-Odobo-Nung Atai; internal roads in the University of Uyo; Nung Udoe Itak-Okoita-Use Ikot Amana-Ibiaku Ikot Esifa Road.

According to Umana, allof the projects were handled by reputable firms which include Julius Berger, Setraco, Stemco, Gitto, alongside very competent indigenous civil engineering firms.

He said prior to the assumption of office by Gov Akpabio, variousmajor roads, especially federal roads were in very deplorable conditions, while some inter state roads were completely impassable.
