The Army Barracks Foundation is to collaborate with Nollywood star, Omotola Ekeinde in its crusade of transforming the social and cultural lifestyle in barracks in the country.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Solomon Giwa-Amu, said this while making a presentation to the Nollywood star.

The foundation, which is aimed at talent hunting in the barracks especially in areas of sports and Art, is an initiative of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Luka Yusufu to engage barrack children.

Giwa-Amu said the COAS was inspired to embark on the programme because of the brilliant performance of the Nigeria under 17 at the world cup in Korea last year.

“We are interested in you as a role model to assist in inspiring them in all ramifications, from your family value to your talents” he said.

Giwa-Amu said the barrack children only have their parents as role models which have both positive and negative impact on them.

“When we train, these children are there watching us, even when we shoot at range, they also spy on us and must have developed some characters which we have overlooked in the past.”

He said if we ignore them, they can become criminals in the society and the COAS wants to empower them early in life.

On the presentation of the gift to star, Giwa-Amu said it was made on behalf of the 5000 troops on peace-keeping mission world-wide.

“When they go on peacekeeping operations they become emotional about Nigeria, and movies where they see stars like you make them feel at home he said.

On her part, Ekeinde commended the Army for the innovative programme on rehabilitating their children.

She said that military children must have been exposed to a lot of things that could be used negatively and put everybody at risk.

“I think that it is a good idea, because most of them are intelligent, they see very clearly and react very quickly.

“It's good when you see people that are criminals on highly intelligent, you quickly put them to use for the good of the society” she said.
