SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 18, (THEWILL) – The Uduaghan Campaign Organisation today reacted to what it termed “wicked, callous and ungodly moves” by ‘some treacherous persons in the corridors of power in Abuja’ opposed to the re-election bid of former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.

In a statement signed by Campaign Director General, Professor G.G. Darah and Director, Public Affairs, Mr Chike Ogeah, Esq., the organisation said:

“It has come to the notice of the Uduaghan Campaign Organisation that there are wicked, callous and ungodly moves by Chief E. K. Clark and some treacherous persons in the corridors of power in Abuja who have an agenda of ‘intense hate’ and campaign of calumny against Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the gubernatorial re-run election ordered by the Benin Appeal Court last week.

“While Dr Uduaghan has accepted the judgment of the Appeal Court with philosophical calmness, equanimity and the dignity of a law-abiding patriot and is preparing for the re-run election, his opponents are busy instigating and mounting undue pressure on their accomplices to use extraneous and extra-judicial forces to stop him.

“A day after the verdict by the Appeal Court, Chief E.K. Clark openly called for the arrest of Dr Uduaghan in a nationally televised interview. This is unfortunate, coming from someone who calls himself a leader of our great party in Delta State and an Elder Statesman. Chief Clark also stated in the interview that Dr Uduaghan was imposed on the State. One would expect that Chief Clark and his cohorts will see the re-run election as an opportunity to test their strength at the polls with Dr Uduaghan.

“Unfortunately, Chief Clark has embarked on a campaign of calumny, including mounting unlawful and reckless pressure on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest Dr Uduaghan. What is Chief Clark afraid of? He said elections did not hold in Delta State in 2007 and he has been given an opportunity to test his popularity with the good people of Delta State. Let him challenge Dr Uduaghan at the polls and desist from using sinister influence and extra-judicial means to attempt to stop him.

“Chief Clark and his associates in the corridors of power falsely give the impression that they are working for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, but we know that the President, as the PDP leader in Nigeria has declared publicly that Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan remains the PDP candidate in the governorship re-run election in Delta State. The National Chairman of PDP, Dr Okwesileze Nwodo has also stated unequivocally that Dr. Uduaghan is the party’s flagbearer for the polls. But Chief Clark and his anti-party cabal have chosen to be deaf to these warnings. They know that their conspiracy has failed yet they are unrelenting in their gang-up and desperation to stop Uduaghan. Part o their strategy is to employ diabolical means to instigate and intimidate the EFCC to attempt to arrest Uduaghan on trumped up and frivolous allegations with a view to stopping him from contesting the re-run as directed by the Appeal Court.

“We call on Mr. President to call Chief Clark and his gangsters to order and ask them to abandon these shameful and suicidal anti-party antics. We further urge President Jonathan and the National Headquarters of the PDP to protect Dr Uduaghan, the PDP candidate for the Delta State gubernatorial re-run election. Dr Uduaghan is the leader of the PDP in Delta State which is a mighty pillar of support for President Jonathan and the PDP in the South-South geo-political zone and the country in general. Chief Clark’s gang of mischievous elders is of no electoral value to President Jonathan and the PDP either in Delta State or at the national level.

“Finally, we would like to affirm that the Uduaghan Campaign Organization is committed to the ideals of our great party to participate in credible elections and offer Nigerians the dividends of good and responsible governance. The Uduaghan Campaign Organization is prepared and confident at any time to win a resounding victory at the re-run elections and subsequent ones,” the statement said.
