As preparations for the forthcoming general elections gather momentum, traditional rulers from Anambra North Senatorial District have endorsed Senator Joy Emodi for a return to the Senate to represent the zone.

The endorsement of Emodi, who was representing the zone until the Court of Appeal, Enugu nullified her election in April this year, was according to the monarchs, in recognition of her achievements while at the upper chambers and in realization that the Senate was better for experienced people.

Announcing their decision to endorse Emodi after rising from a meeting at the palace of the Chairman, Anambra North Traditional Rulers Council and traditional ruler of Igbariam Kingdom, Igwe Nzekwe Kelly, the royal fathers noted that the absence of Emodi in the Senate was being felt seriously by the people of the zone.

Speaker after speaker among the 14 monarchs present at the meeting praised the contributions of Emodi on the floor of the hallowed chamber while in the Senate and commended her for the things she attracted to the zone and vowed to do everything possible to ensure her re-election into the Senate so that she could complete the good work she was doing for the zone.

They volunteered to help her secure the ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on whose platform she was running should she has problem in getting it.

Speaking on the official stand and decision of the monarchs, the Chairman, Igwe Kelly said: 'When Senator Emodi was in the Senate, we used to see her speak on the floor of the Senate frequently. We, the people of this zone know what she has attracted to Anambra North and the number of people that have benefited from her empowerment programme and our people are very impressed and happy with her.

'We know that the Senate is a place for intelligent and experienced people like Senator Emodi who also know the terrain and our people will like to see her back there.

'We the traditional rulers have decided that no other person except you (Emodi) will go for us. Those who feel they have money let them prepare, those with power let them prepare, but we are strongly behind you. We are asking our people to be prepared to vote for her.

'If you have problems securing the ticket of your party, inform us and we will assist because we are in good terms with Governor Peter Obi, we are friendly with your National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh and the state Chairman, Kwentoh. We can go and meet them and get the ticket for you.

'If you hear that another person met with us, don't panic, our support for you is total and we meant it. Just go and prepare for the election.'

Earlier, Emodi who had arrived the palace shortly after the end of the monarchs meeting with good number of her supporters including the seven local government chairmen of APGA in the zone, expressed her gratitude to the royal fathers for their support promising not to disappoint them when she returns to the Senate.

Enumerating some of her achievements before and while in the Senate, she challenged those opposed to her ambition to show proof of what they had done for the people.
