INEC Signs Contracts for DDC Machines Ahead of 2011 Polls

In strict compliance with the electoral processes and to ensure a hitch free voter registration exercise in Nigeria, ahead of the 2011 general elections , the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has signed all contracts for the supply of 132,000 units of Direct Data Capture (DDC) machines to be used during the voter registration exercise slated for January 2011. Chief Press Secretary to Prof. Attahiru Jega, Chairman of INEC, Mr. Kayode Robert Idowu in a statement made available to huhuonline.com, revealed that 'The contracted suppliers are Zinox Technologies Ltd, which is to supply 80,000 units at $1, 771. 73 per unit; Messrs Haier Electrical Appliances Corp Ltd, to supply 30,000 units at $1, 699. 60 per unit; and Avante International Technology Inc., to supply 22,000 units at $1, 699. 60 per unit. The units to be supplied, according to him, would cost is inclusive of all taxes and charges.  Mr. Idowu further stated that the machines are to be delivered in 35 days.  Recall that INEC's timetable has scheduled January 15, 2011 for elections into the National Assembly (Senate/House of Representatives), January 22, 2011 for Presidential elections and January 29, 2011 for Governorship/State Houses of Assembly elections.
