Benin City has become notorious for incessant kidnapping for ransom. There have been hundreds of cases of abductions leaving the state police command often helpless.

A few months ago, the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Apkolopkolo Oba Erediauwa, traditional worshippers, herbalists and chief priests of different deities converged in the state capital to invoke the spirits of ancestors to punish and inflict vengeance on armed robbers, kidnappers and other criminals, including their backers in the state.
