DISSOLUTION OF LGs: EKITI PDP ACCUSES FAYEMI OF DOUBLE STANDARD

By Lere Olayinka

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has accused the State Governor, Mr. Kayode Fayemi of double standard on the issue of dissolution of Local Government Councils in the State, saying; “Sending traditional rulers to beg the PDP while at the same time importing thugs from Lagos into the State is not only evil but lamentable.”

PDP Director of Communications and Strategy, Mr. Jackson Adebayo said in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti today that; “Fayemi must first follow the path of honour and constitutionality by rescinding his illegal decision to sack democratically elected local government officials before sending our traditional rulers on a begging errand.”

Adebayo, who said the State Council Traditional Rulers met with the PDP leaders today at the instance of Fayemi, reiterated the commitment of the party to constitutional governance, added that; “In as much as we respect our Obas and hold them in a very high esteem, we will continue to maintain that Fayemi has no constitutional rights to unilaterally sack democratically elected local government officials.”

His words; “The situation now is that, if the ACN government want peace, we will give them peace. If Fayemi and his Lagos backers are desirous of causing anarchy in Ekiti State, we are ready to assist them because no one can take us for a ride.

“As at today, we are aware that armed thugs are being imported from Lagos and notable PDP members of the House of Assembly like the Majority Leader, Hon. Lai Oke, former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Femi Bamisile, Hon. Femi Adeleye and Hon. Adebayo Morakinyo have been slated for attack.

“This evil plot is being hatched by the same people who went on their kneels to beg our Obas to appeal to us to accept their regime of illegalities.

“They are afraid that the State House of Assembly might not rubber stamp their illegal dissolution and believe that our Obas, that they had called several unprintable names will rescue them. But too bad, they have failed,” Adebayo said.

While hailing the House of Representatives for its courageous stand on the illegal dissolution, Adebayo said; “With this resolution, the House of Representatives have set the pace for the restoration of governance at the grassroots level, which is now being murdered by some overzealous State governors.”
