I CAN WIN AFRICAN FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR AWARD – GYAN

By NBF News

FIFA Ballon d'Or nominee, Asamoah Gyan, says he has garnered a decent record to win this year's African Footballer of the Year award.

Gyan powered Ghana to the final of this year's Africa Cup of Nations with three goals and lost 1-0 to Egypt in Angola.

He replicated his striking form by netting three times in Ghana's quarterfinal feat at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

The 24-year-old rattled in 13 goals for French Ligue 1 side, Rennes, before moving to English side, Sunderland as a record signing.

Gyan hopes to become the fourth Ghanaian after Abedi Pele, Abdul Razak and Ibrahim Sunday to win the African player gong.

'I think this year, I have been able to prove myself in African Cup, club side and everything, but I'm not CAF. I think I did my best, but they are going to decide. I'm okay with whatever happens,' Gyan said in an interview with a local radio station.

CAF has yet to release a list of nominees for this year's African Footballer of the Year award.
